Meadowfoam flower

May 03, 2017

Meadowfoam flower

Did you know that, as BC` skincare brand, we use a lot of extracts and oils from the local plants? There are some plants that you, probably, already know, such as chamomile, calendula, and lavender. However, you may not be so familiar with the rare Meadowfoam flower, which gives us the precious oil, chemically close to the sperm whale oil.
Meadowfoam Seed Oil - well-known to prevent skin dehydration and make skin “look” younger. It can also replenish the oil in your skin or control it if there’s an overproduction of sebum. In addition, it can prevent or reduce damage from harmful environmental factors due to its superb anti-oxidant properties and skin softening benefits.

The meadowfoam seed comes from the meadowfoam plant (Limnanthes alba). It is native in some parts of Canada (specifically in Vancouver Island and British Columbia).
The meadowfoam seed is found out to be useful in making beauty products, along with being used as a vegetable oil substitute for sperm whale oil.

Components of the Meadowfoam Seed and its benefits:

Tocopherol – This compound is the primary component of Vitamin E which is known to keep the skin from aging.

Docosadienoic Acid – polyunsaturated fat, effectively moisturizes the skin and smoothes the wrinkles.

Eicosenoic Acid – This acid, along with other fatty acids, is known for its many properties. It is non-comedogenic (does not block the skin’s pores), it can be readily absorbed by the skin, and it balances the oil in the skin, making it less oily.
